“There is light at the end of every tunnel!”
This project involved extensive renovation work at the Stovel Road Leisure Centre, focusing on the entrances, car park, footways, cycleways, and surrounding road infrastructure. Our goal was to improve accessibility, optimize traffic management, and enhance safety features across the entire site. The key aspects of the project included realigning the car park entrance, upgrading the footway, resurfacing key areas, and implementing traffic-calming measures.
Car Park & Entrance Enhancements
-
Kerb Realignment: We realigned the kerbs at the leisure center and car park entrances to enhance access for vehicles and pedestrians. This change improved traffic flow and created a more organized and safer entry point.
-
Ground Excavation & Leveling: To ensure a smooth transition, we excavated the ground and leveled the entrance, providing a more accessible and even surface.
-
New Entrance Ramp: A new entrance ramp was constructed to ensure easy access for individuals with mobility challenges, meeting modern accessibility standards.
Traffic Flow Improvements
-
Height Restriction Barrier Removal: The existing height restriction barrier was removed to facilitate improved vehicle access to the car park. This change ensured the facility could accommodate larger vehicles, enhancing flexibility.
-
Bollard Installation: New bollards were strategically placed around the entrances and pedestrian areas to enhance safety by controlling vehicle access and protecting footways.
Surfacing Work
-
Updated Surfacing Between Junctions: We resurfaced the areas between the junctions at the entrances to provide a smooth, durable surface, improving the overall aesthetic and functionality of the car park and entrance road.
Footway Cycleway Realignment
-
Footway Upgrades: The footway was realigned to create smoother pedestrian paths and ensure greater safety for walkers. These upgrades also contributed to the overall accessibility of the site.
-
Cycleway Enhancements: We carried out improvements to the cycleway, creating a more bike-friendly route with enhanced surfacing and better alignment for cyclists.
Raised Junction Table & Verge Construction
-
Raised Junction Table: A new raised junction table was built to enhance traffic calming and improve pedestrian safety at key intersections. This modification encourages drivers to slow down, ensuring safer crossings for pedestrians.
-
New Verge: A new verge was constructed, providing a visually appealing, green buffer between the road and pedestrian areas, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the site while improving traffic flow.
The Stovel Road Leisure Centre renovation reflects our commitment to enhancing public spaces with a focus on accessibility, safety, and functionality. By improving key access points, resurfacing vital areas, and installing traffic-calming features, we created a safer and more user-friendly environment for all visitors. The project not only modernized the infrastructure but also improved the overall experience for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
