It is our policy to operate in a sustainable manner and to consider sustainability in all aspects of our operations. It is our policy to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements and this policy applies to all our workers and compliance is a condition for partnership for supply from external providers.
We embrace a wide definition of sustainability based on engaging in development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs and we recognise we have a duty to pursue sustainable development in all our activities.
We aim to promote an awareness of sustainable development and environmental issues through our practices and we develop our management systems to monitor and improve environmental performance on an ongoing basis.
Procurement is a key area of consideration with regards to our sustainability efforts and we will use our position in the supply chain to influence suppliers and to ensure that environmental and sustainable factors are embraced within the framework of value for money and effective product delivery.
Key points of our strategy;
- Source locally and from sustainable sources wherever possible;
- All purchasing activity to consider environmental and sustainability issues;
- To encourage the elimination of hazardous materials in our purchases;
- To encourage the reduction of waste in both goods and the packaging of goods;
- To encourage a culture of re-use and recycling;
- Review our services to ensure that, wherever possible, we are using sustainable goods, services and works and to minimise environmental impact during use.
We monitor and manage our own environmental impacts and set objectives for the improvement of our environmental performance including using life-cycle perspective analysis to try to influence improvements in environmental performance throughout our supply chain.
Improved recycling, review of waste and waste management, and reduction in business driving, fuel efficiency and efforts to reduce energy use are all considered on an ongoing basis as part of our environmental management systems.
