“The only way through… is round!”
The Castle Hill Roundabout required widening to support the growing local infrastructure, particularly to accommodate new housing developments. Our role was to enhance pedestrian access and improve the overall traffic flow at the roundabout. The project aimed to create a more efficient and safer traffic system, while improving the aesthetics and functionality of the surrounding areas.
Roundabout Widening & Re-alignment

Widening & Re-aligning the Carriageway: We widened the roundabout’s circulatory carriageway, creating space for a dedicated right-turn lane for vehicles approaching from the south. This improvement significantly enhanced traffic flow and eased congestion, making travel through the roundabout smoother and more efficient.
Reshaping Splitter Islands & Kerb Updates

Splitter Island Reshaping: To ensure a more efficient flow of traffic and improve safety, we reshaped the splitter islands at the roundabout.

Kerb & Edging Updates: The existing kerbs and edging were updated to align with the new roundabout design, ensuring a clean and functional edge to the newly expanded road network.
Pedestrian Facility Improvements

Enhanced Pedestrian Access: One of the key aspects of the project was to improve pedestrian facilities around the roundabout. We widened pathways, provided clearer signage, and added new crossing points to ensure the area is safer and more accessible for pedestrians.
Landscaping the Verge Area

Wide Verge Construction: We constructed a wide verge area around the roundabout, transforming it into an eye-pleasing feature. The area was carefully landscaped to improve both the visual appeal and the overall environment of the roundabout, making it a more attractive space for both drivers and pedestrians.
This project is an excellent example of how infrastructure can cater to both traffic capacity and pedestrian accessibility while preparing for future development. By widening the roundabout and adding key improvements to pedestrian access, the area is better equipped to handle increased traffic from the nearby housing developments. In addition, the landscaping helps to improve the visual aesthetics, making the area not only more functional but also more welcoming.
