“Smooth the path for those around you!”

Pavenet successfully completed a comprehensive footway improvement scheme on Carlyle Road, delivering safe, high-quality public realm works while maintaining continuous pedestrian access. The project was carried out in full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, with careful coordination to minimise disruption to the public and surrounding area.

Site Setup & Safety Management

Established site welfare, hoarding, and traffic and pedestrian management systems,
Installed, maintained, and removed temporary footway diversions in line with approved traffic management plans,
Removed and later reinstated concrete bollards as part of enabling and reinstatement works.

Utility Detection & Surveys

Located, identified, and marked existing underground services using CAT & Genny, GPR equipment, and statutory utility plans,
Ensured all excavation works were safely coordinated around live services,

Enabling & Removal Works

Removed existing footway signage and pedestrian guardrails to facilitate construction activities,
Saw-cut, broke out, excavated, and removed sections of the existing footway surface where required, including tie-ins.
Confirmed through coring and testing that no tar-bound materials were present within the footway construction.

Excavation & Waste Management

Excavated footway construction and sub-base to formation level where required,
Soil testing confirmed no contaminated sub-soil was present,
Disposed of all excavated materials at a licensed waste facility (L&S, Portsmouth – Licence No. DP3091EQ/V004) in accordance with environmental regulations.

Structural & Ironwork Adjustments

Adjusted and renewed existing ironworks to finished surface levels,
Installed terram membrane in all sub-base repair areas to ensure long-term performance.

Surfacing & Finishing Works

Laid a 100mm cold binder course and applied a bitumen seal,
Prepared existing surfaces through sweeping, cleaning, and application of tack coat,
Machine- and hand-laid AC6 surface course to deliver a durable, high-quality finish.

Signage & Reinstatement

Installed new permanent footway signage in line with current standards,
Reinstalled two concrete bollards in their original positions,
Completed soft landscaping works, including topsoil placement and seeding to all affected areas.

Project Completion

All work areas were cleared and swept, leaving the site clean, safe, and fully operational,
Temporary works were removed, and the site was successfully demobilised.

This project demonstrates Pavenet’s capability to deliver complex footway and public realm works safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while maintaining public access and adhering to strict environmental and regulatory requirements
