Pavenet was appointed to deliver enabling and structural groundwork works at the Burpham Clean Water Treatment Works, supporting the installation of new pressure vessel tanks.
The project involved the demolition of existing structures and the construction of a new reinforced concrete base to accommodate the tanks. Due to the size and weight of the vessels, a crane lift operation was required, along with the provision of a temporary hardstanding area and access route to facilitate safe installation.
Site Mobilisation
Initial site setup, including welfare facilities, plant delivery, and preparation for works.
Site Clearance & Access Preparation
Topsoil was stripped and stockpiled on site. A temporary hardstanding access route was constructed to allow safe movement of plant and vehicles.
Demolition Works
Existing concrete slabs and walls were carefully demolished, with materials processed and stockpiled on site.
Sub-base Installation
Excavation works were carried out, followed by the installation of a 200mm sub-base and 75mm concrete blinding layer to prepare for the structural slab.
Base Slab Construction
Formwork (shuttering) was installed, along with a damp proof membrane (DPM) and reinforcement steel, including starter bars for plinths. Kicker formwork was set, and the reinforced concrete base slab was poured.
Plinth Construction
Formwork was adjusted and installed for the plinths. Reinforcement and holding-down bolts were fixed in place before pouring concrete to form the plinth structures for the pressure vessels.
The works were completed safely, on programme, and to a high standard, providing a robust and precise foundation for the installation of the new pressure vessel tanks.
