This project focused on the construction of a crossing ramp that would serve as a shared footway and cycleway linking Holmanleaze with St Clouds Way. The work involved a combination of excavation, retaining wall construction, and ramp building, all while ensuring the surrounding areas were reinstated to their original condition once the work was completed.

 Excavation & Embankment Work

  • Excavating the Embankment: The first step was to excavate the existing embankment to create the space required for the new ramp. This foundational work set the stage for the reinforced concrete retaining walls and ramp construction.

Retaining Wall Construction

  • Reinforced Concrete Retaining Walls: To ensure stability and prevent erosion, reinforced concrete retaining walls were built on either side of the ramp. These walls provide structural support and ensure the long-term durability of the crossing.

Temporary Retaining Sheet Piles & Steel Fixing

  • Temporary Sheet Piles: During excavation and construction, temporary retaining sheet piles were installed to maintain the integrity of the site while work was underway.

  • Steel Fixing & Formwork: Once the sheet piles were in place, steel fixing and formwork were used to prepare for the pouring of concrete, ensuring a strong and precise foundation for the retaining walls.

Concrete Placement

  • Concrete Pouring: After formwork and steel fixing, concrete was carefully placed to create the structural elements of the retaining walls and ramp. This step ensured that the construction would be both durable and weather-resistant.

Parapet Railing Installation

  • Safety Features: To ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists using the ramp, parapet railings were installed along the edge of the ramp. These railings add an extra layer of security while complementing the overall design.

Footway & Cycleway Construction

  • Ramped Footway & Cycleway: The ramped footway and cycleway were constructed to create a smooth, accessible path for both pedestrians and cyclists. This new shared space enhances connectivity between Holmanleaze and St Clouds Way, making travel safer and more convenient for local residents.

Site Reinstatement

  • Surrounding Area Reinstatement: After all construction was complete, the surrounding areas were reinstated to their original condition, restoring the site’s aesthetics and functionality. This included landscaping and ensuring that the surrounding environment was undisturbed.

This ramp construction serves as an important link between two key areas, improving both pedestrian and cyclist access. The design prioritizes safety and sustainability, providing a dedicated shared space that encourages eco-friendly transportation options. The new ramp also enhances connectivity, benefiting local communities and reducing travel time.
