This project involved the installation of a new drainage overflow system to enhance surface water management.
The scope included the installation of: Two 1200mm catch pits, One 1200mm combined catch pit/gully (CCG), 25 meters of new 150mm twin-wall drainage pipe and repair works to two sections of existing 150mm drainage pipe
Temporary works were required for both the new installations and repairs. All active work areas were safely segregated from the public using appropriate signage, barriers, and a 24/7 road closure. Throughout the works, full access was maintained for both residential and commercial properties.
Traffic Management
Phase 1:
Type 1 closure at the Bournemouth Road junction, with gateman during working hours. Type 1 closure at Midhurst Court junction (with a switch to a Type 2 closure outside working hours to maintain residential access)
Phase 2:
Type 1 closures on both sides of the works with no gateman. Footway closures were implemented where required, with safe crossing points and temporary walkways provided. Where necessary, temporary ramping and footway boards were installed to maintain property access at all times.
Site Management & Materials Handling
The site compound was initially located within the Phase 1 closure and later relocated to the Trevose Crescent junction for Phase 2. The compound was fully enclosed with Heras fencing and protected with wooden boards to preserve the existing surface. All equipment, plant, and welfare facilities were securely stored within the compound and monitored via CCTV.
Materials were delivered on the day of use whenever possible. Excavated material was stored temporarily on-site before removal. Track mats were available as needed to minimize surface damage during plant movements. A 2” pump was on standby for over-pumping during drainage installation.
Environmental Considerations
Saturated waste was managed on-site by drying and safe disposal. All waste was non-hazardous and disposed of at the licensed facility. Due to the presence of known and unknown underground utilities, a vacuum excavator was utilized to carry out all excavation works safely and precisely.
