“Sit back, and enjoy the ride!”
Pavenet played a pivotal role in delivering the first phase of the Adanac Park development, a landmark infrastructure project supporting University Hospital Southampton (UHS). The new Park & Ride facility provides sustainable offsite parking for NHS staff, easing congestion around UHS sites and nearby communities. This facility also opens to the public on weekends, enhancing local transport accessibility across Southampton.
Pavenet delivered a comprehensive package of civil engineering and groundwork services across multiple phases, including:
Section 278 (S278) Highway Works
Construction of a new link road connecting the Park & Ride site to the main road network,
Installation of kerbing, footpaths, and tactile paving to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety,
Integration of traffic management systems, including signage, road markings, and temporary diversions during works,
Coordination with local authority highways teams to meet compliance and safety regulations.
Section 50 (S50) Bus Turnaround Facility
Earthworks and formation of a dedicated bus turnaround loop, including sub-base and surfacing layers,
Installation of bus shelters, lighting columns, and drainage systems to support year-round use,
Provision of ducting for smart infrastructure (e.g. real-time bus tracking, CCTV),
Surfacing with durable asphalt materials to withstand heavy vehicle traffic.
Groundworks for Multi-Storey Car Park
Site clearance and enabling works including removal of vegetation, levelling, and ground stabilisation,
Installation of deep drainage systems, including attenuation tanks and stormwater management features,
Construction of foundations, retaining walls, service ducts, and reinforced concrete works to support the future superstructure,
Utility connections including power, water, communications, and fire mains.
Site Infrastructure and Landscaping
Provision of internal access roads, footpaths, and cycle routes,
Construction of parking bays with EV charging points infrastructure,
Installation of external lighting, fencing, and bollards for site security and visibility,
Soft landscaping, tree planting, and ecological mitigation works.
Project Highlights
Sustainable Transport Solution: Reduces car use on UHS sites and promotes greener travel options for staff and residents,
Future-Ready Design: Supports integration with a larger healthcare campus masterplan, offering space for clinical, training, and administrative facilities,
Public-Private Collaboration: Delivered in partnership with NHS, local authorities, and private design teams to meet healthcare and community needs.
The completion of this phase marks a major achievement in Southampton’s sustainable infrastructure strategy, directly benefiting NHS staff, easing local traffic issues, and supporting future healthcare expansion. Pavenet’s early involvement and precision groundwork delivery set the foundation for long-term success at Adanac Park.
